How do Hair Lasers Work?
Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being
targeted, while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. Candela lasers feature a patented skin-cooling device for even greater patient comfort and
safety – and better results.
Multiple treatments are required for effective hair reduction because the hair follicle must be “active” at the time of treatment and not all follicles are
active at the same time.
Candela GentleMax system is the fastest laser available today. Treatment time per session depends on the amount of area treated. A lip may take only
a few minutes whereas an entire back may take 30 minutes or more.
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
You will feel a stinging sensation when the laser is fired. The procedure causes a slight charring or stubble. You may notice the odor of singed hair,
which is normal. Most patients feeling nothing more than a slight sting … like the snap of a rubber band.
What About Side Effects?
Possible Side Effects - Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn, may occur in some clients. These effects typically last 24
hours or less. In some instances, slight blistering may occur and is quickly managed with topical creams.
How Many Treatments Are Required?
Multiple laser treatments are necessary for best results. Laser energy has its greatest effect on growing, or anagen hair follicles; as the dormant, or
telogen hairs become active, usually within 3 weeks to 3 months, some new hair growth will be observed.
Usually at least 4 - 7 treatments over the course of a year will be necessary for satisfactory, long-lasting results. The number of treatments needed
depends on factors such as: density, and thickness of hair, body area treated, hormonal factors, medications, and genetics.
Causes of Excessive Hair Growth
Excessive hair growth can be caused by the hormonal shifts of puberty, pregnancy or menopause. You may also have unwanted hair growth patterns
caused by heredity, medication, hormone replacement therapy, diseases or other reasons.
Hirsutism is a medical condition that is defined as the excessive growth of thick dark hair in locations where hair growth in women is usually minimal or
absent. Such male-pattern growth of body hair usually occurs in androgen-stimulated locations, such as the face, chest, and areolae (nipple area).
Laser hair removal successfully manages most all abnormal and excess hair growth issues.
